TransitFlow is a mobile-first public transportation tracking and commuting platform designed for Lagos commuters. The project focuses on reducing uncertainty during daily travel by providing reliable bus tracking, predictable arrival windows, route guidance, and seamless digital payments.

Instead of helping users simply find a route, TransitFlow helps them make confident commuting decisions before leaving home.

Problem statement

Problem statement

Problem statement

For many Lagos commuters, the biggest challenge is not distance but uncertainty.

Users often arrive at terminals without knowing:

  • When the next bus will arrive

  • Which bus to board

  • Whether a route is crowded

  • How long the journey will actually take

This creates what I identified as a "Trust Gap" between commuters and public transportation systems, leading to stress, poor planning, and wasted time.

1. Research & Discovery

I studied the commuting challenges within Lagos public transportation and analyzed existing solutions.

This included:

  • SWOT analysis of competing platforms

  • Transit behavior research

  • Pain point identification

  • User need mapping

2. User centered design

I created personas representing common Lagos commuters, including:

  • Working professionals commuting daily

  • Students navigating the city on fixed schedules

This helped align product decisions with real commuter needs and behaviors.

3. Structure & Flow design

I mapped complete user journeys for:

  • Route planning

  • Live tracking

  • Commute scheduling

  • Ticket purchasing

  • Account setup

The goal was to reduce decision fatigue and simplify key actions.

4. Visual & System design

A scalable design system was created using:

  • Consistent components

  • Clear status indicators

  • Simple navigation patterns

  • Accessible typography

  • Reusable interface elements

Phone number authentication

Instead of traditional email registration, users sign up with their phone numbers.

Reason:

  • Faster onboarding

  • Familiar behavior

  • Lower friction

  • Better suited to local commuting habits

Live Tracking with Arrival Ranges

Instead of unrealistic exact ETAs, TransitFlow focuses on predictable arrival windows.

Reason:

Reliable expectations build trust better than inaccurate precision.

Challenges & Learnings

Challenges & Learnings

Challenges & Learnings

One of the biggest challenges was designing for a transportation environment where real-time information can be unpredictable.

This project reinforced the importance of designing for trust, not just functionality. Users are more likely to adopt a transit product when it helps them make confident decisions, even when conditions change.

TransitFlow was designed around a simple belief:

People don't just need directions. They need confidence in their journey.

The project reimagines public transportation through the lens of trust, transforming daily commuting from an uncertain experience into a structured and dependable one.
